How Trump’s Attorney General Turned the DOJ Into a MAGA Hit Squad

Pam Bondi once promised the Senate Judiciary Committee she would serve as an independent Attorney General, not a presidential enforcer. Fast-forward six months, and Bondi has become a central figure in what many legal scholars call the most politically weaponized Department of Justice in modern American history.

From the botched “Epstein Files” stunt to targeting political enemies and press critics, Bondi’s DOJ now operates more like a political warfare department than an impartial guardian of the law. But her rapid rise may soon become a brutal fall, as MAGA turns on one of its most visible defenders.
The “Epstein Files” Debacle: A Political Stunt Gone Sour
In February 2025, Bondi unveiled what she theatrically dubbed “The Epstein Files: Phase I”, promising shocking revelations implicating political elites in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking operation. MAGA influencers, QAnon types, and conservative media rejoiced, expecting a bombshell.
Instead, what the DOJ released was a heavily redacted document dump with no list of names, no videos, and no new charges. The FBI stated that the “client list” didn’t exist in the promised format and that the remaining evidence was sealed to protect victims and preserve ongoing investigations.
Within days, MAGA turned. Influencers like Laura Loomer accused Bondi of “lying to Trump’s base.” Steve Bannon and Glenn Beck expressed skepticism. Even Tucker Carlson, once a Bondi fan, suggested the whole spectacle “reeked of cheap theatrics.”
Behind the scenes, sources report that Trump himself was furious—not because Bondi went too far, but because she under-delivered, making him look weak to his most paranoid and loyal followers.
Going After Trump’s Enemies: DOJ as a Weapon
While Bondi fumbled the Epstein saga, she made significant headway in weaponizing the Department of Justice against the administration’s political opponents.
▪️ New York City Mayor Eric Adams
Career prosecutors prepared federal bribery and corruption charges against Mayor Adams, only for Bondi to suddenly shut down the case in February 2025. Seven DOJ attorneys resigned in protest. Insiders said Trump feared a trial could hurt Black voter optics, even though Adams is a Democrat. Bondi spun it as “depoliticizing justice.” It was anything but.
▪️ Democratic Fundraising Platform ActBlue
In March, Bondi ordered an “election integrity audit” of ActBlue. Though no wrongdoing had been found by FEC or IRS investigators in over a decade, Bondi’s office opened a full criminal inquiry. Prosecutors admit privately that the aim is to “muddy the waters” before the 2026 midterms.
▪️ Former Intel Chiefs James Comey and John Brennan
Bondi greenlit investigations into James Comey and John Brennan, echoing Trump’s long-standing grudge. Though no charges have been filed, both men were subpoenaed in what critics call “show trials” aimed at discrediting their criticism of Trump’s past abuses of power.
▪️ Weaponization Working Group
One of Bondi’s first acts as AG was creating the “Weaponization Working Group,” tasked with:
- Investigating federal prosecutors involved in Trump’s past legal woes;
- Examining civil rights probes launched under Biden;
- Reviewing the FBI’s role in vaccine misinformation efforts;
- Targeting whistleblowers inside Catholic and immigrant advocacy groups.
The group’s real function? Revenge.
The Press Under Siege
Bondi’s contempt for journalists is no secret. Since February, she has:
- Banned multiple media outlets (including The Guardian and MSNBC) from DOJ press briefings;
- Labeled The Washington Post as a “foreign agitator”;
- Threatened legal action against journalists who publish leaked information, even when verified and in the public interest.
In one chilling moment, Bondi suggested at a May 2025 press conference that some reporters “ought to be investigated for obstruction” when they refused to reveal sources. That single statement drew comparisons to authoritarian regimes and sent a wave of fear through newsrooms.
Judges in Her Crosshairs
In April, a federal judge in San Francisco blocked one of Bondi’s mass deportation directives. Her response? “That judge has no jurisdiction over national security. None. We will not comply.”
Legal scholars called it a direct assault on judicial authority. Former acting AG Sally Yates said, “What we are witnessing is a breakdown in constitutional order. The DOJ under Bondi no longer respects judicial review.”
Is Bondi About to Be Thrown to the Wolves?
Bondi’s aggressive tactics have made her a hero to Trump, for now. However, history tells us that Trump eventually turns on even his most loyal supporters.
Already, internal reports suggest the White House may blame Bondi for mismanaging the Epstein narrative and failing to jail high-profile Democrats before the election season. Her once-adoring base now jeers her name on Truth Social.
If Trump’s poll numbers slide or public pressure mounts, don’t be surprised if Bondi becomes his next scapegoat, the same way he turned on Jeff Sessions, Bill Barr, and dozens of once-loyal lieutenants.
The Legacy She’s Leaving
Pam Bondi promised to be a steward of law and independence.
Instead, she has:
- Undermined investigations into Trump’s allies,
- Weaponized the DOJ to persecute political opponents,
- Stripped press freedoms,
- Attacked federal judges,
- Staged PR events over justice,
- And poisoned public trust in the nation’s top law enforcement office.
Her legacy may not be her victories, but the constitutional wreckage she leaves behind.
Final Thought from Citizen Ben
Bondi’s DOJ isn’t just political. It’s theatrical, vindictive, and dangerous. And like so many Trump allies before her, she may soon discover what happens when the boss decides you’re no longer useful.
In the end, justice was never the goal.
Control was.
